Psalms are nothing more than songs to the Lord. In Psalm 66, the psalmist praises the Lord for the many ways he sees God at work in his midst.
But as the psalmist praises the Lord for what He has done and for how He has protected the people, he recognizes his responsibility to offer the Lord his best…especially if he desires his prayers to be heard.
Is there a message for me?
Lord, I am convicted that I am not offering you my best–my best time or talent.
That is why I am sacrificing burnt offerings to You, the best of my rams as a pleasing aroma.
Psalm 66:15 NLT
As I reflect on Psalm 66, I am convicted and need Your help, Lord.
I am not giving you my best “rams.” My time and talents seem to be going to another destination, be it work or entertainment. Sadly, it seems even reruns are of greater importance to me.
Lord, please forgive me, and more importantly, help me repent from giving You the leftovers of my time and talents.
I don’t know how to begin and then maintain that focus, but I trust You to both show me and enable me to fulfill the vows I made to you.
Our God is so good that even when He convicts us, He is faithful to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Share on XIf I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw His unfailing love from me.
Psalm 66:18-20 NLT
He continues to draw you and me with His cords of lovingkindness and His unfailing love surrounds us.
