Is your life chaotic like mine sometimes feels?

Chaos and feelings of being unsettled surround our daily lives. When we are unsettled, how can we move beyond these feelings? How can we get a grip on ourselves?

The first step, which is always the hardest, is to admit we are feeling unsettled and chaotic.

While at a silent retreat in the Chicago area, I was sequestered in the seminary’s cafeteria just pondering my life at that particular time. I do not consider myself a poet at all, however, the word, ‘unsettled’ just tumbled into my mind, and I recognized that was how I was feeling during that season. From there I contemplated additional thoughts and emotions as I admitted my state of being. Finally, I came to a conclusion which surprised me.

We all find ourselves in seasons of feeling unsettled and discombobulated, sometimes for no apparent reason.

Take the time to ponder your feelings and allow the words to flow over you.

Write them down and allow your thoughts, feelings and words to bring you some clarity. Hopefully the conclusion I arrived at will be helpful for you too.

Below, I recommend a book that may provide you a starting point for an incredible journey of discovery into your innermost thoughts and feelings.

Answering the Question: What is the Antidote to Life when it seems Unsettled and Chaotic.

     Unsettled

        Over stimulated

        Never at rest

Filled with yearnings too hard to conceive.

Making my way to discover the truth

        Reaching, searching, yet never secure

        Trying my best

        As best as I can.

        Seeking contentment

        Aware of the pain

Hoping for heaven to break through the muck.

Trusting my future one day at a time

Knowing the pilgrimage won’t be for long

Though the sojourn we follow wanders through years.

        Never arriving, never at ease.

Releasing my grip. Let strivings cease.

Just another pilgrim seeking my home.

What is the Antidote to being Unsettled?

Know for certain that Jesus understands and desires for you to trust Him for your future home and also for your present reality.

We’ve heard it said, ‘this too shall pass.’ That statement is easy to say and much harder to live out day by day.

Life can be unsettling and chaotic in so many ways.

But Jesus tells us that nothing is impossible with Him and He is above and beyond all our concerns, including those things that unsettle us.

Believe there is a future in store for you that exceeds your ability to comprehend. You can rest in the sufficiency of Jesus who is making all things new.

He instructs us to yoke ourselves to Him and sojourn through this life, one step at a time. Trust that He has completed everything necessary and will bring all that concerns you to fulfillment at the proper time.

Believe. Receive. Rest.

Set your mind on things above, where your life is hidden with Christ.”

Colossians 3:2-3

“For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors. So let us strive to enter that rest. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”

Hebrews 4:10-1,7
Calm sea with sun breaking through the clouds offers the antidote to being Unsettled: Rest in Jesus. Sojourn with Him day by day.
Antidote to being Unsettled: Set your mind on things above, where your life is hidden with Christ. Enter His rest.
